Issue 3 of the Personal Data Journal is out. In this issue, I wrote the feature article about
“Personal Data in Decentralized Network Architectures”
In the article I give a high-level overview of the respective advantages and disadvantages of centralized and decentralized systems, and I list several concrete projects working on decentralization, e.g. FreedomBox, Diaspora, StatusNet, RetroShare, Tribler, SocialSwarm, Unhosted, SecuShare, Thimbl, Crabgrass, Briar, Lorea. I also write about political aspects of such efforts, as well as about their relevance for the Personal Data Ecosystem.
Sorry, the journal is subscription-based. But if you are interested in the issue, let me know and I’ll send it to you.
